The 400 richest Americans have the same wealth as the poorest 150 million Americans. If that statistic doesn’t shock you to the core, you must be one of the 400. The key to understanding our world lies in grasping how 400 individuals, and people like the English Queen, can utterly dominate vast populations that could destroy them in an instant if they so chose. If we lived in the jungle as brute animals, its inconceivable that the 400 wouldnt be attacked and killed by much stronger individuals. So there is something about human civilisation that leads to the astoundingly unnatural situation where 150 million people allow their lives to be destroyed in order that 400 people should live amongst them as monarchs who command all they survey.
