The 68th Indian Independence Day was celebrated at Mini - TopicsExpress

The 68th Indian Independence Day was celebrated at Mini Secretariat Complex, Ukhrul. Except for the Security Forces no School Contingent participated in the Parade (which has always been the main highlight of the event). No civilians turned up to witness the celebration. The streets are deserted, all shops have been closed and no vehicles are plying on the streets because of the Boycott called by the Tangkhul Longnao. This is the first time in Ukhrul where Indian Independence Day is being commemorated while the Ukhrul Headquarter and its adjoining areas have been imposed with Section 144 CrPC. The irony could not be missed by any right thinking persons that while clamping down on Civil Liberties, the State is celebrating the day India gained her freedom. What kind of freedom should we be talking about when the people are not given the freedom to live without fear or trauma caused by the large presence of Manipur Security Forces-Commandos & IRBs.
