The ASO situation is a mess. I have friends very close to the goings-on, and trust me, the situation is worse than the headlines. Heres the thing: since before the 96 Olympics, Atlanta has tried to portray itself as a world class city. There are those of us who have our doubts, and this situation is adding fuel to the fire. Forget being from here, and knowing all the little hidden gems. Heck, I grew up in a town of 3000, and Bristol, NH has its amazing little finds. Answer me this: Why would someone visit Atlanta? NYCs got shopping and Broadway. Bostons got history. Chicagos a stellar food town with dynamite architecture. New Orleans has jazz & Bourbon St. LAs got Hollywood, San Fran has scenery, etc, etc. But why hop on a plane to the ATL? Im not being sarcastic. I want to know. And I love this town. But once you get past the Aquarium, what is it about Atlanta that is truly world class. You want to know what most foreign tourists are looking for? Tara. But is that enough? If the symphony situation continues, it will be a major cultural black eye not just for Atlanta, but the entire Southeast.
