The Alejandra Bravo campaign for City Council in Ward 17 today - TopicsExpress

The Alejandra Bravo campaign for City Council in Ward 17 today responded to a threatening Notice of Libel Letter from attorneys for Councillor Cesar Palacio. “This frivolous attempt to silence me is a clear sign that Mr. Palacio is scared of losing his job,” said Alejandra Bravo. “He’s hearing what we are at the door – an overwhelming desire for change in leadership in Ward 17. I will say I’m surprised that he would turn to this kind of legal bullying – I think he’s been spending too much time with the Ford brothers at City Hall.” The letter threatens a libel suit on the basis of a printed copy of a webpage that was allegedly distributed to houses within ward 17. These photocopies were distributed without authorization or knowledge of the campaign. Ms. Bravo’s campaign materials are clearly marked and branded. “Mr Palacio should know that this is what elections are for – for voters to examine the records of elected officials.” Bravo added. “His record speaks for itself: Councillor Palacio is a staunch ally of the Fords at City hall, voting with them over 85% of the time, including to make cuts to libraries, to reduce service on local bus routes like the 29 Dufferin while raising fares, and to introduce a new Scarborough Subway Tax in an effort to win votes for the Fords.” Ms. Bravo concluded that she looks forward to debating Mr. Palacio about his record of supporting the Fords and his failure to deliver results for Ward 17, starting at an all candidates meeting scheduled for Wednesday, October 1. “I’ve been working with hundreds of volunteers to get the message out about Mr. Palacio’s record. I look forward to facing him head on at this week’s debate.”
