The BNZ Condor Sevens Canterbury qualifier was held on Friday. In the girls section Lincoln HS took on St Margaret’s College in the final. St Margarets were in the tournament for the first time and had been steadily improving over the leadup tournaments. Lincoln HS prevailed 22-7 in what was a very good final to qualify for Auckland. This will be the third time in a row that they have attended the Condor finals. In the boys section there were 12 teams competing in four pools of three teams. Two teams from South Canterbury travelled up for the tournament, Timaru BHS and Roncalli College, adding to the tournament. In the semi-finals St Bede’s beat St Andrews College 26 – 7 and in the other semi-final St Thomas came up against Christchurch BHS which proved to be the match of the day. St Thomas won 14 – 10. In the final St Bede’s accounted for St Thomas 26 – 14 but both teams will travel to Auckland and both showed that they are worthy contenders for the nationals.
