The Beatles were the first music I remember. I remember watching - TopicsExpress

The Beatles were the first music I remember. I remember watching them on Ed Sullivan in 1964, and the British Invasion washed over me like a flood. But sometime around 67 or 68 I branched out to some of the other records in my parents collection - Brother Dave Gardner, Joe South, Ray Charles, Dean Martin...and Hank Williams. I played the hell out of Hank Williams, memorized the lyrics, sang along with them. He transcended form and style and made something as pure and elemental as can be created. My grandmother had a program from one of the times she saw him, possibly at the Skyline Club. I wish Id been able to see him perform that magic.
