The Belgian doctor Peter PIOT was part of the team that discovered the ebola disease in 1976, and is now at the forefront fighting the epidemic outbreak of ebola in Western Africa. He is chair of the newly set-up Science Committee at the World Health Organization. Prof. Dr. Piot, next to discovering Ebola, fought much of his professional life against the spread of infectious diseases, including HIV/AIDS.
