The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced that the first case of Ebola was diagnosed today in Dallas. As a doctor, I was relieved to see that Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital has taken the appropriate steps to ensure the safety of other patients and staff and has kept the patient in strict isolation. While Ebola is a rare and deadly disease, the United States is fortunate to have great public health infrastructure to handle this type of disease. I sit on the subcommittee on Africa and Global Health, which has been monitoring the situation since early August and I look forward to talking to Dr. Tom Frieden, the director of the CDC later this week to discuss how we can continue to work together to stop the spread of the disease and keep all families safe, here and around the world.
