The Christmas List When I was young, at Christmas time I - TopicsExpress

The Christmas List When I was young, at Christmas time I knew just what to do. I checked Sears’ Christmas catalog to see what toys were new. I loved to read that catalog and look at all the toys. The bikes and boots and BB guns, like all the other boys. I’d make myself a Christmas list to read out loud each day. I hoped somehow to drop a hint, or to try to anyway. But then I made myself a plan. I knew just what to do. To let my parents know each day, I’d mention one or two. Then on Christmas morning, so often I would find The gifts that I hoped for. My parents were not blind. And now I’m grown my plan still fills my every expectation. The joy I have on Christmas morn tops my imagination. But now I have a catalog to study all year ‘round. It illustrates what God supplies to keep my spirit sound. And as I read the Bible and shop the scripture list I know my heavenly father not one word of prayer will miss. So I tell my father all my needs, repeat it every day. I know he hears my every word and answers in his way. I find that when I least suspect, his gifts I often find There beneath that tree of life. I know that they are mine. he tells me in his Holy word, there beneath that tree, That says that if I’ll trust him, these gifts are all for me. When sin and guilt have soiled me, he gives me a brand new heart. Tells me then to turn again and make another start. His gift of faith erases fear and love replaces greed. There’s healing for sickness, and providence for need. He knows what I have need of and how good or bad I’ve been. And Christ has co-signed my account and paid for all my sin. So, when my prayers are answered I’m not surprised, you see. For many times he’s brought this lesson home to me. That when I order mercy he fills that order first. And with confession of my sins comes forgiveness from its curse. And when I order tithing I find that I will learn, I can rely on his supply and providence, in turn. There’s also God’s contentment with little or with much. There’s soothing balm for sadness and healing in his touch. So as I read the Holy book and thank the Lord each day For all his blessings and his gift, It’s Christmas every day. Dave McKee 12/28/1995
