The Dearne Playhouse 9th August event was another success in my opinion. How does one measure success ? Basically by ticking the boxes one chooses to be ticked. So here goes: A great atmosphere – Yes Lots of fantastic R&B Music – Yes A happy crowd – Yes A few new faces – Yes Lots of familiar faces - Yes Friendly staff, organisers and attendees – Yes A good sound system – Yes Records for sale – Yes Everyone dancing – Yes Lowish entrance fee - Yes Shoes covered in Talc - Yes We had an excellent set of professional DJ’s playing incredible Rooty music with a responsive dance floor full of mature cultured dancers and enthusiastic followers of R&B. When I say mature I mean sensible. The Dearne Playhouse R&B Event is a non-profit making event. However I must declare I made £5.00, which I’ll gladly accept to pay for the roll of table banquet paper that cost me £20.00. Two DJ’s refused to take petrol money, which I’m eternally grateful for, as I was able to tip the glass collector Kylee, and the door staff for their dedication on the night. Order of play with rotating 30 minute slots until 1am. First on the decks was yours truly, Mick TP Casey, followed by Andrew & Eileen Vasey, Glenn Merrifield, John Moffatt and Steve Mank. List of Thanks 1. The Dj’s – Mick TP Casey (Me), Andrew Vasey, Eileen Vasey, Glenn Merrifield, John Moffatt and Steve Mank (Not on Facebook). 2. Steve Mank and Sharon Rigby for the loan of the equipment 3. The door staff. Alan, Philomena and Patrick Cawkwell. 4. The ladies at the end of the night who did a fair bit of fetching and carrying, Sue Webb, Jayne Hulme and Gaynor Ross. 5. All the unsung heroes who like me drank soda water so others could enjoy the pleasures of something a bit stronger. 6. The venue manager Julie and the two bar staff, Kylee and ?. 7. A special mention for those people who travelled a considerable distance and drove passed other Rare Music events to come to the Dearne Playhouse. Next event will be 18th October 2014. Sadly my last night as the founder organiser and presenter and possibly the very last Dearne Playhouse Back to the Roots event. However watch this space as one or two of my friends and associates at the Playhouse Event may be stepping in and picking up the R&B Baton. God bless you all Mick TP Casey
