The Fair Work Commission has ruled that the penalty rates for casual restaurant employees working Sundays should be reduced from 75 per cent to 50 per cent. The decision has given new hope to employer groups who want further cuts, arguing higher rates mean fewer job opportunities, but unions fear employers in other sectors will try to exploit the ruling and are considering appealing against the decision.
