The Hyundai Xcent is nearly here… With TATA, Maruti Suzuki, VW, Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Renault and Mahindra all following the same mantra for an entry level sedan, it is about time that Hyundai updated their line-up to re-capture the market share that once Accent had captured. Come 12th of March 2014, the Hyundai Xcent will be launched in New Delhi. Yes, you guessed it right – it is an elongated version of the impressive little Grand i10. From the front till the back doors, the Xcent looks pretty much the same as the Grand i10. However, as showcased during the Auto Expo a couple of months back, Hyundai has done a superb job in keeping a balanced design even with the addition of a big boot. Because of this, it will offer the best in class space for your luggage needs. As we have seen a trend in the past with all Hyundai offerings, this car will also offer loads of gadgetry inside and outside the cabin. The top-end variant will get parking sensors, push start-stop, rear-view camera, rear air-con vents, USB compatible music system with 1GB on-board memory, automatic climate control, steering mounted controls for your music, etc. Excuse me for ending the list with etc. as I just couldn’t go on listing the obvious stuff like dual air-bags and ABS. Oh, not again! With the same set of engines and transmissions on offer as the Grand i10, the Xcent, on paper, comes out on top of all the other competitors. I am not sure about the styling of this thing. It’s just too obvious for some reason. But then I think of the Maruti Suzuki Dzire as what gangrene would look like if we could actually picture it and it sells like a cure for cancer. Styling is not of the utmost importance here in India for these kind of cars simply because other factors are way more important than how the car looks like. If we keep the looks out of the equations and Hyundai prices it competitively, they can actually break some Japanese nuts.
