The Imperfect Truth About Christmas The birth of Jesus - TopicsExpress

The Imperfect Truth About Christmas The birth of Jesus Christ. What a gloriously beautiful and perfect day. Something quite stunning and beautifully represented in the picture of a perfect nativity. Everyone wants a perfect Christmas, one to represent the splendor of the very first Christmas. However, this idea has really left me thinking. Last night the girls were in a nativity play at church. That is the second picture and it is no where near the beauty of the first. The play was a bit unorganized. Many children messed up their lines. The songs were a jumbled mess. Angels lost their halos and to be honest.... it nowhere near represented the birth of Jesus. Or did it? If you zoom in real close to the picture of lasts nights nativity play you will see a little angel with down syndrome. You can peak across the young faces and behind their smiles are children who can not hear. Some of the kids are special needs. Some can not walk right or talk right. On occasion we attend a very special Church service on Sunday. We have for many years. It is a mass created for handicapped people in our area. It is a mass where sign language is used through out for those who are deaf. It is a mass that celebrates being handicapped. My older niece Morgan was in this very same nativity when she was six and it was a blessing to see the little girls in it this year. It was a mess from start to finish. The children bumbled their way through the story of the birth of Jesus. Many lost their way to the stage, while other had no idea what to do once they were on stage. However messy it all was.... it was absolutely beautiful too. It represented the birth of Jesus better than the most stunningly perfect nativity ever could. The first Christmas was not perfect, even though telling the story a couple thousand years later may make it seem flawless. Mary and Joseph were poor. They gave birth in a stable full of animals. That alone can seem quite tragic. Jesus was born and the world had no idea. People at that time imagined the coming of Gods son. They thought he would a be a king, born in a castle, perfect in every way. He would be surrounded by the finest things in life. Isnt that what you would expect? However, God had a bigger plan. Jesus was born in a way to show us so much more. His birth is an example of the imperfect in our world. A sign from above that riches and splendor are maybe not what they seem. Perfect isnt perfect the way we might imagine it to be. Woman all over the world are fretting away this day. They want their houses to be flawless, their food the most divine thing ever cooked. They want their children to act like statues. They want perfect for their special Christmas. However, maybe our idea of perfect is permanently skewed. Ive come to realize that the perfectly awful nativity play last night was one of the most beautiful plays ever. It was born from love. It was enacted by some of the most beautiful children I know. It was a piece of God smiling upon us all. Telling us to stop reaching for some blown idea of perfect and enjoy the wonderful of something seemingly broken. Something not as we expected it to be. Something beautifully not perfect! Merry Christmas everyone. I hope you enjoy your day, no matter how not perfect it may be
