The Indian Express, one of the leading English dailies carried a malicious story today (8 March 2014) reading, “AMU group extols Purdah,‘Islamic Solutions’ on Women’s Day” about as good as an event like Exhibition and Conferences, counseling and sensitization programs being organized at AMU in relation to International Women’s day. It is unfortunate that the newspaper published the story without sending its correspondent to the event. This is highly objectionable on the part of a reputed newspaper. In fact nowadays it has become a fashion for the some careerists in journalism to write against any event organized by the people believing in religion. These liberal extremists and Marxist fundamentalists are as bad as religious fanatics. One should keep in mind that Islam has a normative value in structuring and restructuring of all Muslim societies, institutions and denominations. We have every right to disagree with others but we do not have any right to put a ban on the fundamental rights of people belonging to any religious persuasion. we hope that the newspaper will discourage this kind of cheap or yellow journalism. AMU is a vibrant campus where all enjoy freedom of opinion and expression. via Mohammad Mohibul Haque
