The Jefferson County Sheriffs Office is investigating after the body of a deceased man was found hanging 45-feet off the ground from a tree about 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 14 in Port Hadlock. A sheriffs office report was not available as of 5 p.m. Wednesday. According to Bill Beezley, public information specialist for East Jefferson Fire Rescue, his agency responded about noon May 14 to assist the JCSO in recovering the body found hanging from the branch of an evergreen tree at the edge of a field along Cedar Avenue behind the Jefferson County Rural Library and Chimacum Creek Primary School in Port Hadlock. Firefighters used a ladder truck to retrieve the body of a caucasian male in his 30s or 40s, Beezley said. Chimacum Creek Primary Principal Mark Barga sent students home with a letter explaining the situation. Beezley confirmed that no students saw the body. The body is to be examined by Scott Rosekrans, Jefferson County prosecutor and coroner. This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
