The Jigmiester fishing tip of the Day: Keeping a varied size and color assortment of custom minnow jigs has been one of my most closely guarded secrets of my day to day fishing success. Jigheads from as small as 1/80th of an ounce to as big as 1/4 oz for deep water and current work well along with minnow bodies from 3/4 to 5 long. The varied body sizes allow me to tailor my presentations to what the fish are keying in on any given day. While tight lining minnow jigs on 4 to 6lb test is my preferred method, sometimes suspending the jig on a slip bobber set up is a more productive option. Slab crappie are suckers for a properly presented minnow jig. The fish see brightly colored skirt jigs all to often so they may pounce on a helpless looking minnow imitator jig swimming their way.
