The Johnstown Police Department recently had to put down one of the K-9 dogs due to illness. This tragic event brings their K-9 staffing to now only one dog. The need for these dogs is critical in crime fighting, and is a great asset to the department. They are looking to purchase another dog to fill the void, however the cost is about $10,000. There is an article in the Johnstown Tribune Democrat today. The Community Foundation for the Alleghenies has a fund established for those wishing to donate towards the purchase of a Johnstown Police K-9 dog.
