The Judicial Branch The judicial branch of the U.S. Government is comprised of the courts. These courts are the Supreme Court, the circuit court, the magistrate court, and the municipal court. Federal judges are appointed by the President, although local judges are generally elected by the public. The duty of the judicial branch is to interpret the laws passed by the legislative branch. The judicial branch has no power to create laws. The supreme court, however, has the power to overturn laws if it deems that they are unconstitutional.
