The Kavre District Court sent Janaklal Shrestha, secretary of Dhulikhel Municipality-1, to prison on Wednesday, nearly nine months after he was convicted of raping a minor girl. Disregarding the court order, Shrestha had been avoiding arrest and holding the government job under political patronage. After Kantipur daily published a story on failure in verdict implementation on the case recently, Kavre Chief District Officer Durga Prasad Bhandari had directed police to arrest Shrestha and produce him before court. Shrestha was on the run ever since. He was apprehended from Buddhanagar in Kathmandu on Tuesday night. He was brought to the court on Wednesday, where the judge sentenced him to eight years in prison and ordered a fine of Rs 50,000.
