The Last Dance @ Areyto De La Paz 2013 Sunday morning and the - TopicsExpress

The Last Dance @ Areyto De La Paz 2013 Sunday morning and the whole camp was up and around. Miguel Sobaroko, called for the mornings Teach In, all attended. As the Teach In came to a conclusion. The Cacike called for the last dance before sitting down for our last brunch together as a group. As they gathered for the dance, by the look on their faces, I knew they where exsorsted after 3 days and nights of continuos dancing. Never the less they all gathered the Mayowaconellos took their places by the drums and the dances entered the circle. I requested and was granted the opportunity and honor of directing the last dance. The fire pit was feed a few more logs intensifying the smoldering heat. As the Sun beat down on us. I then explained and demonstrated how our fore fathers danced counter clock wise to the left while stomping their left foot on the ground to the beat of their hearts summoning and calling out for the ancestors to awaken and join us in celebration of our dance for peace. I then signaled to the mayowaconellos to start drumming to the beat of our hearts, as we slowly danced to the left, left, left. As the beat quickened so did the dancers, as the blistering Sun beat down on us all. In perfect formation the people danced as the Bohike sang out songs and prayers. the drums where now blazing picking up the pace of the dancers as I called our for the circle to tighten around the fire pit as they danced. On their faces I could see the sweet pain and tears streaming down their bodies totally drenched in sweet from the heat of the fire and the sun beating down on them. "You see nothing we can do to our selves can ever come close to the pain and suffering that our fore fathers endured as they were tortured mutalated and burned alive by their captives". May el Pueblo del Cemi continue making this a yearly Areyto, becoming a tradition that our people can make a yearly pilgrimage to look forward to attending on a yearly bases. The Taino resurgence is alive and kicking. As the younger generations start to take their places and make their contributions. May the spirit of the one and only original ancestor bless us all, jan jan Katu. Baibramael
