The Library Table,Flood & Bible In 1937 Paducah,Ky.was flooded. The Ohio River kept coming up and the water froze and would push the ice up till it broke which made a very loud noise. It got up in the street in front of our house which was about two miles from the river.Earl (my dad) and the man next door decided that since the water only got up a foot in the yard that they would build a scaffold in the house two feet off the flood. Then they put all the furniture on top of the scaffold. The river kept comin up so we moved two houses down which was higher off the ground. The water kept rising and we had to get in a Jon boat and leave for higher ground. The water kept rising and got 5 feet in our home. When the water got lower enough dad went back and went in the house everything was ruined. The library table had floated of the scaffold and was turned upside down. Dad sit the table on the porch to dry out. They tried to get the drawer open but to no avail . They had to take the drawer slides from the bottom to get the Bible out. It was one solid book and very soggy. For several weeks they tried to separate the pages but never did get them separated. They gave up and it was discarded. Ther goes all of our family history and a lots of precious memory. Precious Memorys how they linger How they ever flood my soul In the stillness, of the midnight Precious sacred scenes un fold.
