The MFN Pound Auction fundraiser returns Friday, 6/21/2013 at CCF at 7:00 pm. The MFN Pound Auction is a ‘convoluted cross’ between a traditional auction and a White Elephant Sale ‘gone bad’ for the purposes of raising finances for the 2013 Mattagami First Nation Summer Mission trip. If your interested in participating in this year’s event here’s how you can begin to prepare … First, ‘save the date’ by marking your calendars: Friday, June 21, 7:00 p.m. at Christ Community Fellowship on Singleton Rd. in Buffalo Township. Second, scour your basement or storage sheds for memorable ‘white elephant’ gift items. A ’white elephant’ item is best described as a gift that is a valuable [‘beauty in the eye of the beholder’] but burdensome possession of which its owner cannot dispose of [oftentimes without a great deal of self-inflicted guilt and remorse] and whose cost [possibly the cost of upkeep] is out of proportion to its usefulness or worth. The Pound Auction is an excellent opportunity to ‘give the gift that keeps on giving’ to an unsuspecting somebody else while helping raise money for mission work in the Canadian bush. Sounds like a plan! Sounds like fun! Sounds like a clever, imaginative way of cleaning out the deep recesses of your storage area! Go for it! Finally, wrap your ‘precious’ gift item in colorful or creative gift wrap and include a tag on you package that provides a clue to the auctioneer and the crowd as to the nature of the contents inside. All ‘white elephant’ items should weigh approximately one pound, however, liberal exceptions to this rule can be made! On Friday, June 21st, fun and frivolity are the order of the evening! For those serious auction attendees, some ‘serious gifts’ will also be included on the auctioning block! Refresh-ments and desserts will be served as part of the evening’s festivities. A video slide presentation, sing-a-long and prayer will conclude the gathering! There’s no other way to describe this event … YOU JUST HAVE TO ‘BE THERE!’ to appreciate the mayhem!
