The Museum of Yugoslav History has a unique collection of more than 20,000 relay batons which Josip Broz Tito received as gifts. Relay race was created on a wave of mass enthusiasm in a newly independent state. The first relay race was organized in 1945, and then every year until 1987. During these 42 years every third Yugoslav actively participated in it.Receiving, carrying and passing of the baton was aimed to represent symbolically the communication between the leader and the people. A part of permanent exhibition „Up Close and Personal with Tito“ consists of 130 different relay batons in the House of Flowers in Belgrade, where Tito is buried. #Yugoslavia #museum #Tito #Balkans
