The Nairobi City County Government has today launched the weekly cleanup exercises in all the Seventeen (17) Sub Counties to encourage residents to participate in keeping their city clean. The weekly cleanups were launched by County Executive Environment, Evans Ondieki and County chief Officer, Dr Leah Oyake will be organized around various Sub-counties and are aimed at sensitizing residents on the county government’s environmental agenda. Speaking in South B shopping Centre CECM Ondieki urged residents to ensure that the cleanliness of the city remains the responsibility of each citizen as opposed to being left to the county government alone. “The responsibility of ensuring Nairobi is clean has traditionally been seen as the sole burden of the City Administration. This should not be the case. Each one of us has a responsibility to ensure a garbage-free city,” said Ondieki. He added that cleanliness was essential to reducing the rising burden of communicable diseases thus enabling the county government focus on providing to patients with more serious ailments.
