The Name Game was recorded by Shirley Ellis 50 years ago today (11/12/1964). Now you may not know the lyrics to the song but I think just about everyone of us who grew up before the age of video games and endless cable channels to entertain us have played the name game. The song went to No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts and No. 4 on the R&B charts. The song was re-released in 1966 and again in 1973. Ms Elliss thing was novelty songs such as The Clapping Song and The Nitty Gritty; both which went to No. 8. The song has been covered by several artists to include Laura Branigan, Devine and Stacy Lattisaw whose version was sampled by Mariah Carey in her song Heartbreaker. Phil, Phil, bo-bill, ... Banana-fana fo-fill ... Fee, fi, mo-mill ... Phil! youtube/watch?v=5MJLi5_dyn0
