The Ogun Festival.. Ogun, the god of iron and smithy, was a hunter who was betrayed during his journey in Ere-Ikiti. Ogun beheaded the ones responsible and returned to the ground. The belief for Ogun worshippers is that he will bring forth favor and good fortune. The Ogun Festival is celebrated every year, usually in late August to early September. Traditionally, Ogun Festival is celeberated with sacrifices of snails, tortoises, and dogs. This year’s Ogun festival took place on September 16th with many participants from Ondo State. Music and marching filled the streets as people celebrated and also as people gathered to pay respects to their ancestors. Participants were richly dressed with masquerades and white or blue powder on their faces. Some went as far as putting engine oil all over the bodies. Villages and towns represented themselves as they marched down the street and played music to showcase them.
