The Ora Houston Campaign for Austin City Council District #1 is looking for energetic, passionate, and dedicated people to help ensure that District #1 has the representation it needs and deserves on the city council in this historic election. Deputy Campaign staffers for the Ora Houston campaign will have the unique opportunity to make history, by electing the first City Council member from District #1. Deputy Staff members can expect to work 20-30 hours per week, including weekends. The position will last until after the general election on November 4th, or December 20th in case there is a runoff. Deputy staff will be able to learn from some of the best political minds in the state. They will be involved in every step of the process, from field organizing and voter out reach to targeting and district analysis to event planning and staffing. In short you will learn everything you need to work on a future campaign and learn how real politics works inside and out. Prospective Deputy staffers should have good communications skills, should enjoy working as part of a team, must be able to take the initiative in fulfilling their responsibilities but also have a strong desire to learn what actual campaigning is all about. In order for Deputy staffers to maximize their effectiveness in voter outreach, some familiarity with the candidate and campaign is ideal. Ideal candidates will either have previous experience volunteering with political campaigns, or will have a relevant degree. Training will be provided for all Deputy staffers, and all Deputy Staffers will report to the Field Director, as well as the Campaign Manager. All prospective Deputy Staffers must possess their own reliable transportation. Deputy Staffers who are Deputy Voter Registrars in Travis County will be given top priority, but this is not a prerequisite for the position. Salary will be commensurate with relevant experience and completion of a two week trial run. For more information on this position, please contact Matt at 616-970-7040, or via email at matt@oraatx. Also please visit our campaign’s website at oraatx for more information on Ms. Houston and her campaign.
