The Owen McKenna trained Farloe Calvin (Hondo Black/ Me Margaret) set a very hot pace in the first session of the Bar One Racing Irish Sprint Cup at Dundalk on Friday. The 4-5 favourite was in total command as he flew around in 21.11 for a six and a half length margin over Tasmanic Jaxx. There was a shock in Heat 3 where 6-4 joint favourites Bittles Bar and Bulmers Baby didn’t enjoy the clearest of runs but managed to qualify in third and fourth places. Victory went to Denis Scott’s Blackthorn Blue (Ballymac Maeve/ It Be So) as he came home three parts of a length in front of Junctionthirteen in 21.36. Just four went to traps for Heat 4 which meant that all runners qualified and it was Pat Guilfoyle trained Bypass Blackie (Royal Impact/ Ardavagga Dazl) which won as he led home Ballyhill Sub by three lengths in 21.30 with Manilla Jet and Ballymac Matthew in behind. The opening heat saw Jason Whyte’s runner-up of last year Hather Ski (Hondo Black/ Culmore Gift) gain a neck margin over Monleek Force in 21.31while the other heat winner was Chris Doyle’s Leave It Out (Royal Impact/ Generosity) which had half a length in hand of Bypass Joe in 21.73
