The PREMIER DIVISION this week saw WILNECOTE GLOBE secure their first league win of the season against TWO GATES UNITED . Globe just shaded a tight game , Jake DAVIS lobbing the Two Gates keeper to win the game 1-0 for his side . Globe had more chances to score but were happy just to get their first win on the board ….. WOOD END SPORTS eventually demolished WILNECOTE RED LION 8-0 . It was a very poor first half by both sides but Wood End Sports dominated the second half and came out victorious . BRENNAN scoring a hatrick , YONWIN a brace along with goals for FARLEY , REYNOLDS and STARKEY ….. DIVISIONAL CUP saw APPLEBY MAGNA host AUSTREY RANGERS and with Austrey turning up with a full strength team and numerous subs they had hoped to dent Applebys aspirations of winning the competition but it didnt happen and when Appleby settled down there was only going to be one winner . The opening goal for Appleby came after fifteen minutes when James Fisher went outside a defender only to be bought crashing down leaving the referee no choice but to point to the spot and Danny TURNER duly obliged . Appleby scored three more before the break through CARLINE , FISHER and the pick from centre half Jack ROBINSON who was unusually playing in midfield , the ball broke to him on the edge of the area and his flashing drive was in the back of the net before anyone moved and Appleby took a more than comfortable 4-0 lead into the break with them . The second period was much of the same with Austrey huffing and puffing but never really troubling Applebys resolute defence . They padded out the score line with an own goal and a great individual goal from Danny TURNER sealed a 6-0 win ….. DIVISION 1 saw the league leaders TAMWORTH ARMS GALACTICOS meet WILNECOTE WMC and Galacticos were starting their first Sunday morning game without the influential Spanish international Conor Fulford and with Joe McNulty and Damion Jarrett being unavailable as they were still chasing Lee Hendries shadow around Basford Football Club , it looked to be a tough morning ahead for the Mighty Galacticos . But losing three players leading up to an important league fixture the Galacticos board went into the January transfer market with new signing Dom Kroos Colson making his debut and Jack Carlos Baker back from an international break in Switzerland . With the sun shining down on Anker Valley its was the Galacticos who started the game well and took the lead with a deep free kick from Chadwick towards the back post where this weeks Captain , in the absence of Fulford , Scott Rolex RICKARDS headed home for a deserved 1-0 lead . A second goal soon followed with some good football down the right hand side when Rickards then turned provider when his pin point cross found top goalscorer Matthew Balatelli BALL whose finish on the volley flew into the bottom corner giving the keeper no chance . Late on in the first half Wilnecote WMC put the Galcticos back four under pressure forcing a Chadwick mistake and allowing the winger to pull a ball back from the byline to an on running Wilnecote player who fired home making the game 2-1 going into the half time break . The second half started brightly for the Galacticos and they had numerous chances to extend their lead without finding the back of the net . Chance after chance fell to the Galactico forward line of Fred Fox and Diego Parker but it wasnt their day in front of goal . With the game at 2-1 Wilnecote WMC were always in the game late on but couldnt break down a solid back four , even when they did get a counter attack together Iker Beeson had a relatively easy morning . The game finished 2-1 with another win for the Division 1 leaders ….. After the highs of the cup win last week against Premier Division Austrey Rangers ,SNARESTONE GLOBE went into a league clash against bottom of the table DUG OUT FC full of confidence and maybe expecting an easy game however this was far from it . Snarestone started the brighter and after missing a few chances eventually a cross from Brooks found KING who chested the ball down before firing it into the back of the net . But Dug Out kept chipping away and after finding some room down the right the ball was played in for new signing CANIPA who shot on the turn gave the Globe keeper Mick the BEAR no chance and it remained all square at the break . Whatever was said by the Snarestone manager at half-time seemed to work as straight from the kick-off Barker twisted and turned his way down the right before crossing for CHETWYND to head home with barely thirty seconds on the clock to make it 2-1 . However Snarestone didnt learn from the first half and allowed Dug Out to get back in the game and they soon equalised from a shot in the penalty box scored by MURRAY . The goal was allowed to stand after the referee decided in his obviously superior knowledge of the rules that the two players standing blatantly offside in the six yard box werent interfering with play even though one of them headed the ball back to the scorer . With the game carrying on with a great deal of disbelief at the refs continuing decisions Snarestones Kilduff ,with the pass of the game , arrowed the ball towards CHETWYND at the back post who buried it in the net with a diving header to make it 3-2 . Another exchange of passes once more saw the ball fall to KING who scored to make it 4-2 but Dug Out kept plugging away and a twenty five rocket for Dug Out from CANIPA saw the score go to 4-3 . With the three minutes left indicated by the ref seeming to stretch to about ten an attack by Snarestone was stopped when he decided that if you dont touch the ball when you are offside that means you are interfering apparently and allowed Dug Out to pump the ball forward one last time and with the last kick of the game a chance to be a hero was lost as the Dug Out centre forward blazed a loose ball over the bar when it seemed easier to score so ensuring Dug Out missed out on the point they probably deserved and gave Snarestone Globe the three points that enable them to keep challenging for silverware on FIVE different fronts … POLESWORTH ROYAL OAK met FC BONDS and it was a scrappy start as both sides couldnt keep hold of the ball . A forty yard run from Bonds right back Cameron Bancroft saw him go past five Polesworth players , he then let fly from thirty yards only for his shot to hit Ant BAKER on the backside and go in the back of the net to make it 1-0 . Bonds had a corner cleared off the line and also hit the post from another corner , and Bonds went in 1-0 at half time . Bonds came out in the second half a lot better and another Bancroft cross from the right was slid home from close range by Wez TONKS to make it 2-0 , subs McHale , Johnson and Lynd came off the bench to get straight into the action , and with good work from Lynd he then set up Simon McHALE to make it 3-0 . Matthew JOHNSON then put the ball over his own head and ran onto his own pass as the Polesworth players stopped and tried to claim off side he carried on and fired past the keeper to make it 4-0 . A quick goal kick from Bonds went to left back Rob Darby he ran down the wing and sent a ball through to Danny LYND and he then cut inside and fired through the keepers legs to finish it off at 5-0 for Bonds .... DIVISION 2 leaders ONE STOP SUPPLEMENTS had no problems in disposing of COTTAGE FARM RANGERS and also clinched the championship with two games to spare with a comfortable victory . Missing striker Will Ellis and top scorer Liam Rowley only fit enough to start on the bench , a pedestrian first ten minutes gave way to CASEY breaking the deadlock from a Hicks corner by glancing into the far corner of the net to set them on their way . Supplements settled and after Shirley blasted a wild shot over the bar after neat skill , the returning CASEY bagged his second , brilliant footwork by Forster saw him slide the ball to Haddock , whose cutback was swept home by the popular striker to all but seal the contest by halftime . After a relatively timid first period , One Stop were quite dazzling in the second , and showed why they are league winners . A crunching tackle by Shirley in the centre saw him feed Forster who performed a one-two with Hicks , leaving the onrushing HADDOCK to collect the pass and guide a daisy cutter of a shot into the far corner to increase the lead . It was 4-0 just minutes later , a magnificent cross-field ball by Hicks was controlled by Casey , who fed the overlapping SHIRLEY , his dangerous ball across the six yard box put into his own net by the hapless defender . It was wave after wave of one way traffic and substitute ROWLEY made it five , a similar move to the fourth , this time involving S. Rowley and Forster left the attacking midfielder to blast a rocket into the home sides net . Five minutes from time , a corner landed perfectly on the head of ROWLEY to grab his second , and 20th of the season , failing to score in just one appearance this campaign . A solid team performance to crown the title leaves One Stop to continue knowing they can know focus totally on cup competitions to try and add to what is already an exceptional season for themselves ….. DIVISION 3 saw FC WHITE LION run out 6-1 winners against MIDLAND UNITY . The damage all done in a first half Unity will want to forget . Unity found themselves 2-0 down in the first ten minutes as poor marking and control was allowing Lion to dominate . Unity found a goal back through TAYLOR , when a corner dropped to his feet , and after good footwork slotted the ball home . But this was just a blip as Lion continued to punish Unitys sloppy approach and went in at halftime 4-1 up . After a roasting Unity came out a better side and gave Lion a game , but in reality they had given themselves a mountain to climb to get back in it . They did hit the crossbar via a rocket from OReilly and had a few other dangerous attacks but Lion were also countering and looking threatening . Lion found two more goals in the last ten minutes to finish off their mornings work , Unity having only themselves to blame for this embarrassing loss …. SPORTS BAR ATHLETIC completed the double over bottom of the pile COTON ARMS in what was a scrappy , fraught match up . The game was played on an absolute pudding of a pitch which , in the main , stopped attractive football from being played . However , Sports Bar controlled the majority of the play despite an encouraging start from Coton Arms . The best chance of the first half went to Coton Arms but it was all Sports Bars doing as Leon James sliced the ball towards his own goal and left the keeper stranded , however the ball bounced back off the crossbar and was eventually cleared , meaning the sides went in at half time level . Sports Bar knew that if they kept pressing a goal would come and had Coton Arms contained for long spells , leaving them to resort to long balls up field to a lone forward . The hosts defended stoutly and were largely untroubled for most of the second half . The Sports Bar management made yet another inspired substitution as they seeked to gain more control in the middle of the park by moving the composed Ward up from full back into the base of the diamond to support the dominant midfield being led excellently by Stevens . It paid off , as not long after there was a breakthrough . The winning goal came from the penalty spot after Dan Croot was fouled from an unnecessary tackle after some good footwork . CROOT then stepped up to take the penalty himself and pressed R1 to stall his run-up , before dispatching coolly into the bottom left hand corner . Sports Bar sat deep for the remaining minutes and defended superbly in the face of some intense Coton Arms pressure , however the three points were theirs and the game deservedly won 1-0 ….. ST JOHNS and WARTON CLUB met for the fourth time this season and the previous three meetings had been closely fought affairs with Warton twice coming out on top with the other game ending in a draw but St Johns were determined to chalk up the first victory against there league rivals . The game started lively enough with both teams going on the attack on a difficult pitch due to the conditions but the quality of football being displayed by both sets of players was of a very high quality making for a very entertaining game . It was Warton who struck first when a difficult left wing cross wrong footed the St Johns defence and the ball was smashed home to put Warton 1-0 up early on . St Johns rallied after this early set back and started to mount some sustained pressure on the Warton goal and it was only matter of time before the equaliser came . St Johns levelled after a scramble in the box lead to two shots being blocked by the Warton keeper before the ball finally fell to Corey RICHARDSON to side foot home to level the score at 1-1 . St Johns lifted by the goal came at Warton and soon took the lead through a wonderfully crafted goal between the forwards that saw Corey RICHARDSON put through by Harley Bakers back heel for him to score his and St Johns second of the match . St Johns were now on top and should have increased there lead on two occasions but poor finishing and a good save from Wartons keeper kept the score at 2-1 . St Johns were made to rue those missed opportunities when Warton levelled on the stroke of half time when a half cleared corner was lashed home taking both sides in level at the brake . The second half started with Warton pressing St Johns hard but their make shift defence stood firm limiting Wartons attack to some long range efforts that St Johns keeper dealt with comfortably . St Johns slowly came back into the game with some swift counter attacks of there own and almost took the lead but for a fine save by Wartons keeper from Harley Bakers low free kick . Warton came again and took the lead when an inswinging corner fell to there striker on the far post to sweep home to give Warton a 3-2 lead . St Johns were stung back into life and went on the attack and came close to levelling when a wonderful run and shot from Harley Baker came back off the post to the away sides relief but it wasnt long before the game swung again and St Johns levelled after a fine move down the left put Corey Richardson away to cross for Harry BEALE to rise and head home to level the score at 3-3 . This was now anybody’s game and Warton and St Johns both went close to re-taking the lead in a breath taking finish but it was St Johns who got the winner when with three minutes remaining they forced a corner on the left and the quickly taken corner was headed home by Kieran RICHARDSON to give St Johns a 4-3 lead that they held onto to take all three points ….. SWIFTS met GATE INN and Swifts were very lethargic and succumbed to a 2-0 defeat against a team below them in the league . The Gate Inn played the first ten minutes of the game with just eight players after a mix up with transport but managed to keep the score level at 0-0 until the rest of their players arrived . Once the Gate had eleven players on the pitch they started to take charge of the game and were soon rewarded when Chris BROWN put a thirty yard free kick into the top right hand corner of the Swifts goal leaving their keeper rooted to the spot . The teams went in at half time with just the one goal separating them which meant that the second half was end to end as the Gate Inn tried to extend their lead and Swifts tried to draw level . With ten minutes to go the Swifts keeper spilled a shot into the grateful path of Kris MURRAY who took the ball round him and slotted it home to give the Gate a 2-0 lead which they held on to until the final whistle to take a much need three points from the game ….. DIVISION 4 and after last weeks shock first loss of the season the leaders TWO GATES UNITED RESERVES were back on form beating GLASCOTE SWIFTS 7-2 . Glascotes goals coming from brothers Adam and Terry ROSE ….. ANKERSIDE RANGERS travelled to HURLEY KINGS and the game was a close one although they didnt really play to how they can . Ankerside started well and forced a couple of half chances before sloppy play led to them giving away possession at half way and then more sloppiness led to them going a goal down after a scruffy finish . In the second half Ankerside improved and had several chances to level with the hard working Tonks and Pegg causing problems and Dan Whelan and Matt Cox going close . But as they pressed and pushed and continued to miss chance after chance they got punished up the other end as Hurley made it 2-0 from a rebound . Ankerside carried on pushing and had a few more chances but failed to take any of them and left frustrated with the 2-0 final score .... An inform NEWTON ALLIANCE went to STONYDELPH and both sides hoping for promotion played out an entertaining 2-2 draw ….. Bottom of the table POLESWORTH SPORTS & SOCIAL will feel a little unlucky not to of won their first game of the season when they met MERCIAN this week . Polesworth started well and were unlucky not to take the lead when effort came back off the bar but Mercian fought back to lead 2-0 at the break . In the second half Polesworth again were denied by the woodwork as they hit the post twice and saw another effort come back off the bar too . They did eventually and deservedly get themselves back in the game with a slice of luck when a free kick taken by Oscar Jukes hit team mate Ashley CUMMINS to find the net and another effort before full time was again denied by the crossbar and Mercian held out for a slender 2-1 win although Polesworth will feel hard done by they didnt come away with anything from the game ….. ELLISION ROSE BOWL CUP action saw Division 1s in form HURLEY UNITED meet Division 3 leaders WILNECOTE QUEENS HEAD . It was the lower league side Queens Head who progressed into the semi-finals with a narrow extra time victory over Hurley in a tight and scrappy game that could have gone either way . EVANS put Queens ahead within the first five minutes with a well taken goal . Hurley struggled to break down a well organised Queens defence until the hour mark with Brush neatly side footing home . Hurley finished the game the stronger side without creating an awful lot . A wonder save from Wood in extra time kept Hurley level before a second from EVANS put Queens back in the driving seat which proved to be the decisive goal as they won 2-1 …...
