The Republican Legislature and Governor are forcing Medicaid patients into low-cost HMOs, county-by-county. Pinellas went last month, just as a friend was diagnosed with cancer. To get into the treatment program at Moffitt Cancer Center... which my oncologist friends believe is imperative... he had to get in to see his new primary care doctor. That doctor agreed that he should go to Moffitt. The new HMO, a restricted version of the standard Simply plan, refuses to allow this. So far. We battle again tomorrow. This Legislature, and this Governor, have blood on their hands. It is not only their refusal to expand Medicaid to those with no insurance; it is also what they are doing now, to those who are covered. Words cannot express my disdain for these people, and contempt for anyone who voted for any Republican member of this Legislature or this Governor.
