The SNP has today welcomed comments from a number of employment law specialists - that have condemned the UK government’s controversial employment tribunal fees - and said that only with independence can a fairer system be delivered. One year on since the UK governments fees imposition a special report by Lucy Adams on last night’s BBC’s Scotland 2014 uncovered the level of opposition to the reduced access to justice imposed by Westminster. Carol Fox, Director Fox and Partners Solicitors said: “It (the fees system) is actually challenging access to justice which up until now has been free – so the UK government really needs to think again.” Professor Nicole Busby, Deputy Head, Law School, University of Strathclyde, explained that the changes were unfairly discriminating against women and disabled workers seeking justice: She said: “..we’re seeing the impact of fees as a reduction in access to justice for actually some of the most vulnerable workers in society.”
