The Search For the missing Buffalo Head A fellow that I worked with at Safeway Named Russ and I got into a discussion about old Buffalo. Heads and were a Guy might find one or two and as he was born and raised in Lovell and him and his family had pounded the hills in search of great finds I thought I might pick his brain a little . Well he proceeded to tell me that about 10 years ago one of his older brothers had found a place were a heard of five or ten buffalo had gotten locked on the edge of a cliff and could not get back up because of snow so deep so they froze to death on the face . He said his brother took one of the heads and packed it up towards the road but he decided he did not want to wast the effort to take it back to the road so he just left it on a rock . He planned on going back to get it but it was quit a few years before he got back and it was know were to be found . He was thinking that someone had stumbled on it or it just got eaten up by rodents or something. Well I was on this like a coon hound on a trail and that next weekend I was on the mountain . He said it was on five springs creek above the falls so I went to were I thought it was and Wanda and I set off down the creek . It was rough getting down there and we finally got to the cliff and sure enough there were buffalo bones around the edge . No skulls or at least I did not see any. The fellow said that he had carried the head about half way back to the road so that is how I started searching walking back and forth . I did this for quit awhile and we sat down on a rock to take a break .Wanda and I were talking and I looked down and there were two rows of teeth showing through the dirt . That buffalo head had fallen down on its back and the dirt had covered all but those teeth . That thing was in sand that was like concrete but I managed to get it out and we headed up to the Bronco. It was in real good shape and I had it for years . I traded it to a artist lady in Lovell for one of her paintings and through the years have lost the painting however she still has the lost buffalo head. POP FRAZIER
