The Singapore Sports Hub’s National Stadium will be the first in Asia to use the Desso GrassMaster, a reinforced quality grass, for its playing surface. It involves injecting 100 per cent natural grass with artificial fibres 18cm into the ground at every 2cm across the pitch — or about 114 million protective fibres to anchor the turf. This allows the grass to use the fibres as anchors for added strength and durability, and will better meet the demands of a hectic sports calendar at the 55,000-seater stadium in Kallang and minimising the likelihood of events being postponed or cancelled due to the playing surface. It also enhances safety and performance levels for athletes.
