The Thomas Smith Memorial Foundation and Hurley Medical Center are offering a FREE Teen Heart Health screening on Saturday, January 17th, 2015. The screening will be held at Carmen Ainsworth Middle School in Flint. All screenings include an electrocardiogram. A cardiac ultrasound will be performed if necessary. Hurley cardiologists will be on site to interpret the results. Although it may be quite a drive for some of you, free heart screenings are very infrequently scheduled. There have been no free screenings offered in the entire state since Beaumont’s Rochester screening in September. Prior to that, some small screenings were offered in Muskegon over the summer, and Hurley held a screening in May. Carpooling or busing may be a great option – students may be screened without a parent present, as long as the registration paperwork has been completed and signed. If you have any trouble registering or have any questions, please email me at rjorrey1@hurleymc and I will get it taken care of. For more information, please visit TommysHeart.org. Please share this information with your schools, youth groups, and community groups! ---------------------------------- If your students are unable to attend, Beaumont does offer year-round screenings by appointment. From the Beaumont website: You can have the screening performed, by appointment, at Beaumont, Royal Oaks Ernst Cardiovascular Center. Please note these are by appointment only and cost $25. Call 800-328-8542 to schedule. heart.beaumont.edu/upcoming-student-heart-screenings
