The Town of Orleans is seeking public input to help shape the future of their community through the development of a Comprehensive Plan. The Plan will establish a forward looking vision for the community and recommendations regarding the implementation of initiatives necessary to realize the vision. Orleans Clerk-Treasurer, Robert F. Henderson, shared, “The Town of Orleans, and the corresponding region, has experienced considerable change and the pace of change is continuing to accelerate. It is more important than ever for Orleans to identify goals and develop a plan that can be effectively executed in a manner that helps the community realize their goals.” Mike Fields, President of Orleans Town Council noted, “I sense that the Orleans community appreciates the value of planning for our future. This interest has been evidenced at the great turnout previously when Ball State University students prepared concept plans for the redevelopment of the downtown area and related opportunities in Orleans. Also, an updated Comprehensive Plan can help our community build consensus in regard to prioritizing projects and also help to identify opportunities to coordinate and leverage future initiatives.” The Town of Orleans is working with the Lochmueller Group (formerly Bernardin Lochmueller & Associates), a planning and design consultant, who will inventory and assess the community’s strategic advantages, resources, and amenities and determine how these can be best enhanced, expanded and improved to achieve the community’s development goals. The Orleans community is encouraged to participate in the planning process by completing a short survey to share their perspectives on the Town of Orleans and the future direction of the community. The electronic survey can also be accessed via the Orleans Comprehensive Plan project website at: orleanscomprehensiveplan2014.wordpress and on the project Facebook page at: https://facebook/orleanscomprehensiveplan2014. The website and Facebook page also include updates on the Orleans Comprehensive Plan as well as background information, including previous planning efforts completed by Ball State University students and faculty. Paper copies of the survey can be obtained and returned to the Orleans Town Hall 161 E. Price Street Orleans, IN 47446. The survey takes less than five minutes to complete. Residents are urged to share the survey with friends and neighbors. A public meeting to discuss the Comprehensive Plan project is scheduled for 6:00 PM Tuesday July 8, 2014 at the Orleans Town Hall.
