The University Police Department will be conducting a multi-agency response exercise on the CSULB campus from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13. Please note the following: In partnership with the Long Beach Police Department, Long Beach Fire Department, St. Mary Medical Center and other community agencies, the emergency preparedness drill will be centered at the south turnaround in front of the College of Education and McIntosh Humanities buildings with additional activity taking place near the Liberal Arts 1 Building and in the quad and on the grass near the KKJZ building. The areas mentioned above will be impacted from 6 a.m. to about 2 p.m., but again, the actual exercise is scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to about 11:30 a.m. A test message of our Emergency Notification System will be sent as part of the exercise. No action needs to be taken by the recipients; it is simply a test message that will be sent and will not mention anything about a specific event. Please ensure your contact information is up to date in MyCSULB. Parking Lot 7 and the south turnaround will be closed for the entire day of the event from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Parking Lot 6, Lot 8A, Lot 8 and other surrounding parking areas will be open for use and unaffected. Pedestrian ingress and egress will be maintained in the affected areas with two areas to cross both at the LA1 corridor and the sidewalk next to the KKJZ building, but there will be limited access to these areas. People will be able to access surrounding buildings and sidewalks. Areas to stay out of will be caution taped off, and Community Services Officers will be present to help guide pedestrian traffic around the affected areas. In addition to having personnel from University PD, LBPD and LBFD, there will be “mock” victims in the exercise area who will have fake blood and makeup on to simulate injuries. There will be ambulances responding to the exercise and you may hear sirens in the area of the south turnaround from those responding units. As a result of advanced interdepartmental planning, all roles and responsibilities for the mock scenario have already been assigned.
