The Village of Nyack is delighted to announce that it is the recipient of a Regional Economic Development Council (REDC) Award to update its Comprehensive Master Plan. NYSERDA’s Cleaner Greener Communities Program will provide $206,000, and the Village will provide an additional 25% match. The updated plan will seek to integrate a resilient waterfront with the possibility for new multi-modal transportation options and sustainable village. It will incorporate goals and recommendations for more efficient use of land, infrastructure and natural resources and an overall decrease in greenhouse gas emissions. The update will provide the basis for new investments in transit infrastructure, adaptive reuse of existing buildings and greener construction. The community based planning project will take place over a period of a year under the guidance of a consulting planner who will be hired through an RFP process. The planner will conduct public meetings, give guided support to village committees and hire additional consultants who will be tasked with updating existing data including parking and transportation studies, analyzing alternatives and feasibility for ferry landing sites and transit-oriented development in the Village and developing the final revised plan. “This kind of planning will define our vision for our community ten to twenty years from now. And it will cement our commitment to sustainability, healthy living and smart growth. It is a spectacular opportunity.” said Marcy Denker, chair of Nyack’s Sustainability Desk. “This is a truly necessary and thrilling award for the Village of Nyack. We find ourselves at an interesting crossroads with tremendous interest in our community, a new bridge being built in our backyard, and a desire to be both a lovely place to live and a destination for visitors. With this grant, we can explore how best to achieve our goals, protect our community and maximize our potential. We thank our Hudson Valley REDC members and our Governor for both this grant and the creation of the REDC Awards which are restoring our great state. How exciting!” said Nyack Mayor Jen Laird White. nyack-ny.gov/nyack-grant-comp-plan-update
