The Western Electric 405B2 (I think I have the right model number) - TopicsExpress

The Western Electric 405B2 (I think I have the right model number) 5 kw transmitter soon after it was installed for KSAL-AM, 1150 in Salina, Kansas (5 kw unlimited, DA-N using 4 towers). KSAL started using this site in the spring of 1949, retiring its 1 kw (DA-N using 2 towers) Western Electric facility on the opposite side of town. Notice the high-tech gear in the equipment rack...tape recorders. Thats what you call state-of-the-art in 1949. The WE, which is still in the building but inoperable, has been joined by an RCA in 1962, a Continental around 1983, and a solid state Nautel in 2012. In addition to a transmitter room large enough to house all four rigs the building has a garage, CEs office, living quarters and a standby generator big enough to keep the station at full power through an emergency. Aaron Coil is now the CE for the six-station cluster of four FMs and two AMs, including KSAL. Hes a member of this group.
