The amount of concern and disbelief I have been receiving in our email is overwhelming. My time has been short at this period as not only am I out-of-province but focusing my attention to other projects, yet I HAD to reply to these close friends (met through this Agassiz project) as to how to get their voices heard...again ! Ironically I write this from what I feel is the worlds most iconic and best managed/controlled National Park - Banff (edited) : I put a lot of thought into what you may write. It needs to be very impactful and go beyond just those at Parks Canada as I feel they are bound and threatened by actions (inactions) and the selection in acknowledging how such was recklessly mismanaged in the past. Id question was this the great purpose of the expensive and of no result east escarpment strategy? They talked about partnerships and working together with community to benefit same. Were such notions ever of their agenda or was it just a persona...a feel good to the communities. Thats not for me to say... This decision has an outcome that could ruin livelihoods and any respect anyone might have had for Parks Canada. Many feel PC are not a good neighbor. They WORK FOR US. Not only should that ski area have been secured from Day One but they should have listened to what the public wanted and BENT OVER BACKWARDS to provide the public need. They continued with the false-hope to pacify extreme public disappointment and possibly even anger at that meeting in McCreary recently...they have no responses; just sound bites. Financial considerations a factor ? They have already discounted the exaggerated water concerns. Financial - believe it that on our side it not an issue. The opportunity is OUR risk not that of Parks Canada. Simply, they dont want to end up with the same costly expenses and humiliation as they have now...that THEY created back in 2000-2003 in not being diligent in their jobs/responsibilities. The whole mess THEY created has simply gone full circle and will certainly come back to bite them. Many find Parks Canada and the array of processes undertaken are suspect in not progressing forward with the obvious - opening Agassiz for both public enjoyment of the peoples Park (and future lifestyle and economic benefits) and to garner much positive public respect of which we imagine some might have been lost. Our participation in these processes has been both timely and costly, yet has been in good faith in advocating the oblivious - with hope of cooperation and consideration from Parks Canada. With you interest, support, and your voice, this does not end as an opportunity missed; as once its gone, its gone.
