The aptly decorated Black House, home of lumberman and early Winnipeg resident Arthur Black. Located at 51 Lily near the Disraeli Freeway (where Automotive Connection now stands), the Victorian era home was built circa 1895 and demolished in 1970. Sottish immigrant Alexander Black arrived in Winnipeg in 1882 after spending 15 years in the building industry in Montreal. The following year, he formed the Alexander Black Lumber Company in partnership with his brother, George Black. He was a Winnipeg City Alderman from 1887 to 1890, and a member of Central Congregational Church and the Thistle Curling Club. He died November 13, 1913 and was buried in St. John’s Cemetery.
