The crisis in Ukraine seems far from over as powerful players - TopicsExpress

The crisis in Ukraine seems far from over as powerful players involved are holding to their guns over the developments that have rocked the East European country. The US and the EU joined hands by threatening Russia with economic sanctions leaving Russia with no option but a defiant response that it will hit back with sanctions. Thousands in Moscow take to the streets to support Crimea’s bid to join the Russian Federation. A similar solidarity rally with Crimea’s planned secession took place in Ukraine’s eastern city of Donetsk. The US is building up its military presence near the in Black Sea by sending its USS Truxtun, a Navy guided-missile destroyer there. The US military is boosting its NATO presence in the region by sending six additional F-15s and one KC-135 to augment the mission in Baltic countries. NATO, at the same time, is launching a military exercise involving 16,000 soldiers from 16 countries in the north of Norway, to practice “stopping a surprise invasion”. Is a military confrontation inevitable over Ukraine? Where is the situation headed to? What could be Russia’s reaction to NATO’s military build-up? Can the EU afford an economic sanction on Russia?
