The day God came down to our level and decided to swear because of you and I Posted by Pastor Dunamis Tunde Okunowo God knows the frailty of the Homo Sapien. He knows that we often vacillate between believing and doubting. And yet, it is ‘believing’ and refusing to budge that gets this thing done. Sometimes, in our mind, we find it difficult to easily believe God because we cannot see Him. And yet, that is supposed to be the sweet part. We cannot see Him, and yet we believe Him. This gets God excited. If God were to be present with us everyday physically and we see Him daily, then it would not be ‘believing’ again. So the sweet part is that we cannot see Him, and yet we trust Him. We cannot see Him, but we know He is there. We cannot see Him, but we sense His presence. We cannot see Him, but we ‘see’ His provision. We cannot see Him but we ‘see’ His invisible hands orchestrating His goodness into our lives and destinies. Joh 20:29 KJV Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed. It is this scenario that Abraham found himself some years back in time, when God blessed him. Heb 6:13-14 KJV (13) For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself, (14) Saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee. God blessed Abraham, but it was really taking time and Abraham was really asking God, how am I sure I will get these promises you are giving me? Can I hang on to your word? So you know what God did? He swore! Now God didn’t need to swear because His word is His bond, but because of Abraham… and you… and I, He came down to our level…and swore! Whoa! Heb 6:15 KJV And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise. He did obtain the promise eventually, because God will never fail. Has he told you anything? Did God promise you something? He will surely do it! But then the question is how did God swear? Heb 6:16-17 KJV (16) For men verily swear by the greater: and an oath for confirmation is to them an end of all strife. (17) Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath: In the early Jewish days, once a man swears, that is all. Verse 17 clearly tells us that it is not really because of Abraham alone that He swore. He swore because of you and I, the heirs of Salvation. He wanted us to see the immutability or the un-changeability of His promise, in that He would not go back or renege on what He has told you! Heb 6:18 AMP This was so that, by two unchangeable things [His promise and His oath] in which it is impossible for God ever to prove false or deceive us, we who have fled [to Him] for refuge might have mighty indwelling strength and strong encouragement to grasp and hold fast the hope appointed for us and set before [us]. So, His promise to you and I becomes a rock-solid one. Firstly, he swore. Secondly, His word cannot change! So this becomes an anchor to our soul, that in the midst of challenges and contradictions, we can still hold on to God’s word, because that is what really gets the job done, when we believe Him and His word. In the midst of the stormy seas and the windy night, we can throw this anchor down, and that will stabilize our souls from being tossed to and fro by doubt! And that is why God came to our level, and went the extra mile to convince us on our level, by swearing. Verse 13 rightly tells us that He had a problem there! Men swear by the greater, but there is no one greater than God, and yet He must swear because that is the language we will understand. So what did He do? He swore by himself! He swore by His throne! He put His person on the line! That if I don’t do what I have promised you, let me cease to be God! If I don’t bless you like I promised, let my throne cease to be! That’s huge! It is this act of God that stabilizes our souls! That is why you can put your life on what God has promised, believe Him with your whole heart and see His word come to pass with you, because He will never fail. It is impossible for Him to lie, so believe, because that which He has promised will have to come to pass in your life! CONFESSION FOR THE DAY Gods word will not fail over my life PRAYER FOR THE DAY Pray that God will give you the strength to hold on to His word THOUGHT FOR THE DAY Heb 6:18 MSG God cant break his word. And because his word cannot change, the promise is likewise unchangeable. We who have run for our very lives to God have every reason to grab the promised hope with both hands and never let go. ACTION PLAN FOR THE DAY List all the things you are trusting God for and start believing again.
