The final stop on our Re.Discover Bunbury tour took us to a laneway off Stephen St, where artists Ayres & Hosae were waiting to greet the crowd. Ayres had spent the week painting the main part of the wall, mixing structured letter styles with different painting techniques including pockets of metallic gold which made the wall shine even brighter. When presenting his mural to the walking tour groups, he said, A lot of the stuff youd have seen around Bunbury today was based on a figure or animal or something, whereas my stuff is based on letters - but its more about the abstract work and the balance between colour and shape. I do a lot of large scale colourful murals around Perth, Ive been doing it for 20 years now and I hope to continue doing it. Its really great to come to a festival like this and connect with other artists and exchange ideas. Ayres friend and fellow artist Hosae also helped to extend the piece with his signature style and characters. When we chatted with the artists earlier that day, we asked Hosae if the three panels hed painted meant anything in particular. He told us, Most of it just came straight out of my head, though the first (grey) one is actually based on a log cabin Im building down south.
