The first shooting I was involved in was for the original opening shot (this was before the Handy Gang or interior office scenes were thought up). We called it the long walking shot. With no budget we didnt have access to a StediCam or even a PanaGlide, but we did have access to a furniture dolly (not an appliance dolly)! For the first few takes we mounted the tripod on the dolly and shot Mike from behind walking forward though the building. But after reviewing the footage he wanted the camera much lower and from the front so he was always walking toward the camera. To make that happen we had to invert the camera by inserting the tripod post in upside down (we knew we could vertically flip the image in post), but I had to move the dolly by walking backwards through the whole scene while looking at the camera monitor to be sure I was keeping Mike in frame. There are many outtakes where I ran into desks, tables and door frames. Eventually we pulled it off, a single seamless take! One last note about that scene, it was all shot in color and converted to black & white in post. The video included with this post will show clips from each of the progressions as previously noted.
