The general public does not see religiously inspired harm for the same reason they dont see cancer or heart patients walking among them. Like heart or cancer patients, victims on the street are not swathed in bandages or using canes. Their problems are emotional and that kind of pain is always hidden. It can come from a spouse being abused or many different emotional traumas. You cannot discern a person with OCD or a child with Asgergers, just by looking at them. You cannot see a child victim of religious abuse either. But experts who treat patients and observe kids in trouble know full well there is a hidden epidemic. Insiders in CPS and police departments know kids are hurting, but they probably do not know the cause may well be religiously inspired abuse. That is solely because religion has gained sacrosanct status. The challenge reformers have is to blow that wide open. Police and prosecutors must be far more diligent ardent investigators. Did we not learn anything from decades of priest abuse?
