The gravesite of Mike Meyer Disfarmer in the Heber Springs - TopicsExpress

The gravesite of Mike Meyer Disfarmer in the Heber Springs Cemetery is the only remaining property associated with the life of the noted portrait photographer. Operating a studio in Heber Springs from 1925 or 1926 until his death in 1959, Mike Meyer Disfarmer quickly became known for his portrait photography of the common people of Heber Springs and the surrounding areas. Since his death, Disfarmer’s work has gained a much wider reputation, culminating in an exhibition of his work at the International Center of Photography in New York in 1976. As a result of his importance in the world of photography, the Mike Meyer Disfarmer Gravesite is being nominated to the National Register of Historic Places under Criterion B with statewide significance. The property is eligible for inclusion under Criteria Consideration C as a grave of an historical figure of outstanding importance. (Date listed; January 21, 2009)
