The monster comics were left scattered behind the counter at Fremont Drug. As usual, Sammie had left his shift without racking all the new arrivals, especially the titles that he disapproved. I found the new title about halfway through the stack, it was the company that produced Strange Tales and Journey Into Mystery, the gape mouthed monster on the cover was similar to the designs on dozens of the other books the company produced. This art was different, a bit diminished, not so bold and the characters were fighting for space in the panels with dialog balloons that contained many times the sparse comments in stories of the companys regular monster titles. The four principals werent as appealing as characters in DCs books, they were inked thickly and colored with a dull hue that was as ominous as the relationship between the flaming man and the Thing covered in dark orange tumors…. but somehow by the end of the read I found myself hoping the issue wasnt just another one shot title, the combination of monster comics and a superhero team was a potent idea…if they could just get another artist to draw it…..
