The month of October has always been a big month for breast cancer awareness. But what most people dont realize is October is also Lupus awareness month and many people have never heard of lupus and those that have, dont know anything about it. This year I would like to see more awareness for lupus in October. Dont get me wrong, I dont want to take away from breast cancer. But lupus rarely gets attention and I just want to spread the word of this horrible disease. My wife was diagnosed at 28 and has fought each day since. She is now 37 and has already had two open heart surgeries, rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, degenerative disk disease, just to name a few of her struggles. This disease is most comon in women with men being carriers to pass down to their children, but men can develop full blown lupus as well. This disease basically makes your body alergic to itself and therefore tries to fight off your organs. Kidney failure is comon among organ complications, but my wife has not shown any signs of lupus nephritis... yet. The video below is my response after being nominated for the ice bucket challenge and I added the purple splash lupus challenge. I will be donating to both causes even though I did the challenge. Please take the time to research SLE Lupus and learn about it and spread the awareness of this cruel disease that there is no cure for.
