The more I study the Declaration of Independence, the more I - TopicsExpress

The more I study the Declaration of Independence, the more I appreciate what this day actually means. Not only did it formally declare our independence from Britain, it further advanced the philosophy that our natural rights come from the Creator, not from a man nor government nor from any document (no, your rights do not come from the constitution). And it is the primary duty of government to secure (protect) these Creator-endowed rights. This means that in addition to declaring our independence from Britain, the Declaration established the premise that each of us have the natural right to self-independence. The “great experiment” set forth by the founders was one based of the concept self-government; that we could independently govern our own affairs better than any King or centralized system of government could. Self-governance is what makes us “The Land of the Free.” Independence means that each of us has a right to freedom of conscience and that we all can realize our dreams by exercising our talents & natural rights, as long as those rights do not infringe upon the “natural” rights of others. We are the only country/government that is founded upon these beliefs. This is what makes us unique and the very reason we should not strive to be like any other country. Be appreciative that your rights have an identifiable source of origin. Be proud that you are an American. Thanks to all whove fought to obtain our liberties & to those who continue to fight to maintain them - on the battlefields, in the political arena & through education. Happy 4th of July to all!
