The names are gold....the golden era of wrestling. Gorgeous George...Bobo Brazille (remember the coco butt?) The Steiner Brothers...Killer Kowaski. They and countless others were the superstars of wrestling and they had America glued to the grainy black and white tv set that was taking hold in American households. In the coalfields of southern West Virginia...many a home was right there in front of the set on Friday night for wrestling...and if you could listen in you would hear cries of ...Give it to him George...oh. no...watch out...hes going to get you with the coco butt..and that was just from Mom. Oh. the excitement. I remember , we had a black and white when we lived up sugar camp hollar near Roadbranch up Huff Creek. All the neighbors would join in at our house to watch wrestling...and there was always a little shine. My parents were still young people at that time....having babies...whooping and a hollering...getting drunk...They were still in their 20s and let no one mistake...way before Jason Aldean and that crew were kickin it in the sticks...our parents were laying the groundwork. I digress dont I....Wrestling in southern West Virginia...in Logan at the Field House...Oak Hill...Charleston...Huntington...all those auditoriums and field houses were SELLING OUT..to wrestling.
